“Although Historians see the Soweto uprising as the year in which the tide began to turn against the National Party Government, the 1980’s was the crucial turning point. At the beginning of the 1980’s, the ANC and other opposition parties were in exile, political leaders were in jail, and the government seemed to have enough power and military force to maintain control.
